The Shriners Hospital For Children Open has had an ongoing problem over the first two rounds.
They can’t finish on time.
For the second straight day, darkness put an end to play with golfers still on the course at the TPC Summerlin outside Las Vegas.
This time, the leader was out there. Brett Stegamaier is hardly a household name. He’s a guy from the Web.com tour but he’s 11-under par through 15 holes and if he can finish with three pars on Saturday morning when play resumes, he’ll be the 36-hole leader in a PGA Tour event for the first time in his life. He is ranked 483rd in the world.
Stegamaier, who played at the University of Florida, opened with 66 and was six-under through 15 holes when they ran out of daylight in the desert.
Leaders in the clubhouse at 10-under are Chad Campbell, Tyler Aldridge and Morgan Hoffman.
Campbell is playing this season using his one-time top 50 on the money list exemption. He hasn’t won in eight years and if the PGA Tour had milk cartons, his picture might be on one of them because he’s been largely missing from contention for a long time.
Aldridge and Hoffman have no wins on the PGA Tour between them.
The field’s highest ranked player, Rickie Fowler, was in danger of missing the 36-hole cut until the back nine. Fowler shot six-under coming home and finished with 65 and will go into the weekend with some hope to contend if his putter continues to get hot. Fowler had 13 one-putt greens in his round.
