Things were pretty close Friday at the Valero Texas Open until Si Woo Kim reached the par three 16th.
With the hole playing just 167 yards, Kim produced the shot of the week.
”I was trying to hit to the left edge of the bunker, with the wind,” Kim said. ”It was a 9-iron. I saw the bounce, but I never saw it go in.”
Kim hit a hit shot that landed almost in the hole, it bounced up toward the flagstick, landed next to the lip of the cup and dropped in. He’s gone 26 holes without a bogey and has nine birdies along with the ace.
The hole-in-one helped the former Players champ shoot a second straight 66 and he’s 12-under at the halfway point.
Both Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth are in the hunt, they are two of five players tied for second at eight-under heading into the weekend.
The cut came at one-under and defending champ Andrew Landry (one-over) didn’t make it.
