“Chipping is my strongest point…..”
And that’s all you need to know to understand why today, we have gone back in time for a short-game lesson with the great Seve Ballesteros.
We lost Seve way too soon. He was an amazing player. We were range buddies. During my golf writing days, I spend hours on practices tees around the country, watching Seve hit golf balls.
We would often be the last two on the range. He was the only player out there, I was the only writer. It was great to be inside the ropes but I always gave him plenty of room. I stood quietly and watched.
At one particular event, it was late in the day. Seve was just about done — he turns to me and says” “What chu thing?” Which was Seve, with that wonderful accent of his asking me: “What do you think?” As if he cared about my swing expertise. I simply answered: “You’re Seve and I’m not….” Instant smile and laugh. He replied “Good one.”
So listen up to one of the true masters of the short game.
Seve keeps it pretty simple and that’s a good thing for all of us.
Watch and learn!
