After a morning of playing in the rain, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth got to head home early at The Travelers
Both Mickelson (three-over) and Spieth (two-over) didn’t come close to making the 36-hole cut on Friday. Mickelson looked like he’d be in the hunt after opening with 67 but he reversed the digits on Friday and shot 76.
Other big names did manage to stick around for the weekend. Brooks Koepka, who said earlier in the week he would approach this event like it was a major, barely made the cut. He’s three-under and had to rally to get there. Defending champion Bubba Watson is five-under, Justin Thomas is four-under.
The leader? That would be a guy who is ranked 505th in the world and is a lowly 222nd in the FedEx Cup standings. Zach Sucher off the former Web.com Tour, now the Corn Fairy, make that Korn Ferry Tour, is a whopping 11-under par after rounds of 64-65. He’s being pursued by Chez Reavie and Keegan Bradley, both are nine-under heading for moving day.
Tony Finau’s slump continued. He finished two-over and was down the road with Mickelson and Spieth.
