It is one more fitting farewell to golf’s most beloved figure ever.
Arnold Palmer will grace this week’s edition of Sports Illustrated for the 12th and probably final time.
The picture looks to be from one of Palmer’s early appearances at the British Open, witness by the members of gallery wearing those old-style trench coats.
Arnold Palmer came along about the same time that television came to golf and the two were a perfect marriage.
Likewise, Palmer came along when Sports Illustrated was growing in popularity and Palmer on the cover of any publication sold copies.
This picture of Arnold is perfect, the best way to remember him — Arnold Palmer being Arnold Palmer. He became as one person put it — the John Wayne of golf.
He had the look, the swagger, the style and he backed it up with his aggressive, go-for-broke style on the golf course.

Great gesture for a real gentleman, an ambassador of the game of golf, and a wonderful human being.

Arnold has always been a great cover guy……he sells, a sought-after endorser his entire life.
