As good as he has proven to be over the years, Henrik Stenson should be leading the Wyndham Championship and he is.
Stenson’s 66 on Saturday at Sedgefield Country Club got him to 16-under par but he has some capable competition in hot pursuit.
“I’ve been playing well, finishing second too many times, I think tomorrow is the day,” Kevin Na said after he turned in a 65 to get within a shot of Stenson.
Na has company at 15-under par.
Webb Simpson, who has finally found a reliable putting grip since his anchored belly putter was banned, shot 68 to join Na. There’s also rookie Ollie Schneiderjans, the only player who doesn’t wear a cap or hat. He shot 66 and made a trio at 15-under.
Harold Varner III came into Greensboro outside the FedEx Cup’s magic 125 but has worked his way into a tie for sixth after shooting 66 and posting 13-under par. But Varner has more than a top 10 finish in mind. “I’m feeling really good about my game,” said the second-year player. “I believe that I can win on Sunday.”
