Steve Stricker continued his steady, consistent, impressive play at the Regions Tradition on Saturday and his six-under par round of 66 got him to 17-under — good enough for a three shot lead heading into the final round at Greystone Country Club.
Stricker is looking for his second win in his last three senior majors at Greystone. Overall, he’s hunting a fourth senior major.
Closest to Stricker is Schwab Cup points leader Steve Alker of New Zealand. Alker shot 65 on day three and is trying to catch Stricker and win his first senior major.
“It would mean a lot,” Alker said. “I’ve won three times and the majors are a big deal out here. We’ve got five of them so we’ve got a good shot at a few. You always say try and treat it as another day. But that’s what I’m going to try to do. I’m just having fun out here and hitting my shots.”
In a strange turn of events John Daly was disqualified for failing to sign his scorecard. After rounds of 68-72, Daly made double-bogeys on two of his final three holes. He would have shot an even par round of 72.
Defending champion was also disqualified after shooting 66 on Saturday. Cejka used a yardage book that was not approved by the rules committee.
