There’s yet another senior major this week, there are five of them total if you’ve lost count.
The Senior Players does one really good thing — it brings back venerable Firestone Country Club into the golf spotlight. Firestone, a site of so many big moments in golf, was basically kicked to the curb by the PGA Tour. The WGC event was yanked out from under it and sent over to hot, steamy Memphis as a summer event the week after the Open Championship — good luck with that.
The old guys converge on Firestone this week and the best of the bunch is now your 2020 Ryder Cup captain — Steve Stricker.
Stricks dominated the U.S. Senior Open and there’s no reason he shouldn’t contend this week at Firestone.
When you look at this tour, it suffers from a big-name crisis — it needs some and Stricker is about as good as they have.
Jerry Kelly, David Toms, Scottie McCarron? Seriously? Who’d get up early on a steamy summer day to “Sweat With The Oldies?”
Bernhard Langer is finally starting to show his age, just slightly, he’s still a guy you can’t overlook. Tom Lehman played darn well last week on the golf course he helped design. He should be ready to play well this week.
Fred Couples? We just don’t see much of Freddie these days but he’s played enough at Firestone to know every hole by heart.
Oh yeah, then there’s the Veej — Vijay Singh. Suffice to know that nobody likes The Veej. Period.
But it’s nice to see Firestone open for some pro action again this week.
Even if it is the old guys.
And yes, there’s always Steve Stricker.

Ahh The senior major which dilutes the senior majors, much like the women’s watered down majors.
I mean I know there’s 5 senior majors but I never remember this is actually one of them. Amazing how 4 can be so memorable but 5 can just get confusing.
