What would we ever do without Stiney?
Yeah, that Stiney, Mark Steinberg, agent to one Eldrick Woods and spinner or all things for Planet Tiger.
Stiney, as Eldrick calls him, gave former Tampa Times high school sports writer Tim Rosaforte a further explanation as to why Eldrick won’t be swinging and showing off for the folks out there in Napa this week.
Did we mention about 30,000 ran out and bought tickets when Tiger said he was coming?
Okay, back to Stiney’s spin:
“He (Woods) played a lot of holes of golf and the game just wasn’t there. He flew Joey (caddie Joe LaCava) down to Florida. He flew him out to California with him. They were going through their prep for a tournament. Going through the weekend playing as much golf as he did, it just wan’t to the standard he wants it to be.”
Okay, roger that, Stiney.
Steinberg also clarified Woods decision not to play in the Turkish Airlines Open, an event on the European Tour.
“That would be inappropriate thing to do,” Stiney told Rosaforte, the Golf Channel’s main insider for all things golf. “It’s my opinion and Tiger and I talked about it and we agreed. He’s been out 15 months. It’s not appropriate to come back to a non-PGA Tour sanctioned event.”
Well, it seems the lads, Eldrick and Stiney, do have some sense of fair play after all.

Tom,
As i mentioned to you before, i said late last year on my website that neither tiger nor phil would ever win again—i stand by that more than ever–o.k. why is he not playing–because he cannot win and tiger will never, ever, ever, ever tee it up again unless he thinks he can win. for him to feel he can win he probably needs to be shooting in the low 60’s, no kidding, low 60’s on a tournament tough course before he plays because he knows the tournament environment cannot be duplicated in practice and only in the fox hole. and that makes scores go up automatically.
If i was consulted, i would say just play, have fun, relax and see what happens. trying too hard is the death knoll for any golfer—it won’t work!
