Tyler Strafaci, winner of the North-and-South Amateur, will try and win yet another U.S. Amateur title for the Georgia Tech golf team.
Strafaci, whose grandfather was a decorated amateur golfer in the 30s, 40s and 50s, will face Aman Gupta, a 20-year-old who plays at Oklahoma State in one of Saturday’s semi-final matches at Bandon Dunes. In the other semi, Charles Osborne from Reno, Nev., goes against Matthew Sharpstene, who is entering his senior season at Charlotte University.
In Friday’s round of eight, Strafaci took out 2016 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Stewart Hagestad, 29, of Newport Beach, Calif., 1 up. Gupta won a hard-fought match with 18-year-old Michael Thorbjornsen, a freshman at Stanford. .
In the quarters on Friday, Osborne blew a four-up lead on the second nine before winning holes 15 and 16 to post a 2-and-1 victory over Arizona State standout Cameron Sisk, 20, of San Diego. if. Sharpstene, who is transferring to Charlotte after three years at West Virginia, eliminated 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur champion and Louisiana State University rising senior Philip Barbaree, 22, of Shreveport, La., 4-and-2.
Azahara Munoz Leads Scottish Open:
Azahara Munoz broke away Saturday with a two-under par 69 that delivered her the solo lead after 54-holes at the Ladies Scottish Open.
Munoz was a shot in front of Stacy Lewis. Lewis shot 70 at the not-as-windy Renaissance Club and was alone at six-under. Jennifer Song will start the final round just two back of Munoz after shooting 70.
Lydia Ko had the best round among the top contenders. Her 67 got her to four-under, tied with second-year pro Cheyenne Knight (69).
World’s No. 2 Danielle Kang was tied for eighth after shooting 69. She’s five shots back at two-under par.

Conner Syme Leads Celtic Classic:
Conner Syme’s 63 on moving day at Celtic Manor Saturday earned him the 54-hole lead at the Celtic Classic.
The winner of last season’s Turkish Airlines Challenge is a shot in front of Sam Horsfield, the winner two weeks ago who will look for his second win on the U.K. swing.
Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg was alone in third. His 65 got him to 13-under. Andrew “Beef” Johnson, who has returned after leaving the tour last month, shot 68 and was tied at 12-under.
