Brooks Koepka has done a pretty good job when it comes to avoiding The Dog House.
Until Thursday in Maui.
Koepka, the No. 1 player in the world, didn’t look much like it on his way to an opening 75 at the Tournament Of Champions.
Brooks found himself tied for 30th in the 33-man field — thank goodness for Santoshi Kodaira and Keegan Bradley and their 76s.
Koepka couldn’t stay off the bogey-train. He had five on the day but his worst effort came on the short par three eighth hole.
Eight is downhill, 180 yards, about an eight or nine-iron for Koepka. He misjudged his tee shot badly and hit it into that unplayable high grass. He went back to the ball drop area and proceeded to take a double-bogey five.
So we sentenced Brooks to the Dog House after his round.
Deservedly so.
You’re No. 1 Brooks — go out and play like it.
