South Korean Sung Kang is totally in control of the Shell Houston Open at the halfway mark.
Kang shot a nine-under par 63 Friday and that got him to a tournament record 16-under par through 36 holes, a half-dozen shots in front of those closest to him.
“I putted really good yesterday (Thursday), putted really good today (Friday),” Kang said after going out early and credited the perfect greens. He also has hit 30 of 36 greens and has just one bogey in two days.
Kang will have a lot to play for over the weekend. He’s looking for his first PGA Tour victory and with it would come the final spot available for next week’s first major — The Masters.
“That’s no in my head,” Kang said but it would be hard for him not to think about a trip to Augusta.
Six shots behind him are Russell Henley and Hudson Swafford at 10-under par.
