Patton Kizzire was pumped to play with Davis Love III at the QBE Shootout.
Only problem was Love withdrew early last week, his mother was ill and he chose to be with her and the rest of his family.
No worries for Kizzire, the call went to fellow Sea Island resident Brian Harman, who played well at Tiburon last year.
They were easy to spot in this field — they were the Mutt and Jeff team with Kizzire at 6-foot-4 and Harman around 5-foot-4.
This go-round Harman had the perfect partner. Locked in a Sunday struggle with four other teams on a windy, rainy afternoon in Naples, the Sea Island guys found themselves a shot behind leaders Graham McDowell and Emiliano Grillo as they stood in the fairway at the par five 17th. Harman hit a three-iron to six feet and Kizzire hit a good second to 15 feet.
Kizzire rolled in his eagle attempt and they jumped into the lead at 30-under par.
They stood in the fairway at the final hole and watched McDowell line up a 12-footer to get to 30-under. He missed and it looked to be pretty easy work for Kizzire and Harman.
The weight transferred to Harman when Kizzire chipped his third 12 feet past the hole. No worries, Harman cozied his 35-footer to six inches and the win was secured.
The winners earned some nice Christmas cash — a nice, fat $422,500 each. Nice holiday part-time work if you can get it. Even last place paid $80,000 apiece to Cameron Champ and Kevin Kisner.
Harman and Kizzire tied for the day’s low round in the best-ball format with an 11-under par effort (61).
McDowell and Grillo’s 62 earned them solo second.
