Call ’em the Evil Empire.
The name pretty much fits TaylorMade, the brand that has sought to dominate the world of golf equipment.
TaylorMade started by coming out with a new driver in what seemed like every nine months, basically forcing big retailers like Dick’s Sporting Goods to basically do away with a lot of space that was previously devoted to golf equipment. Couldn’t sell the old stuff and here’s the new stuff coming out.
Last week TaylorMade was a no-show a the annual PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. Previously it staged a huge display arena, throwing up massive posters of its star players like Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, etc.
Not this year.
TaylorMade issued some terse blubbering statement about devoting more dollars in other areas but The Evil Empire has already said its going to start ditching the mid-stream tour players and focusing on its big stars.
Was great to see a FORMER TaylorMade guy in the winner’s circle on Sunday and that would be Justin Rose, who proved it’s not the equipment, it’s still the player.
Not sure where all the TaylorMade folks went, perhaps to the beach with these happy dogs in the picture above.
Into the Dog House with all things TaylorMade.
