TaylorMade has been the most-played driver on the PGA Tour for quite a while.
That dominance may soon end — by design.
TaylorMade is apparently reducing its program and will stop paying middle-tier Tour players to use their drivers.
TaylorMade was sold this past year to KPS Capital Partners and those Wall Street Grinches are going with the big name players to promote the brand.
High-priced guys like Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods are hauling in the big bucks to play the equipment.
What we’re seeing is a surprising shift for a company that has dominated driver counts on the PGA Tour. Add to that news the fact that Callaway won the driver count at the Mayakoba Golf Classic along with Ping taking the numbers crown at the Charles Schwab Championship, and the battle to claim driver supremacy will add even more intrigue to the upcoming season.
