Things got a little tougher Friday at the Franklin Templeton Shootout when the format went to modified alternate shot.
No scramble, no best ball, more individual shot-making on the line and it was Charley Hoffman with partner Daniel Berger who stepped up to take the lead with 18 holes to go.
That duo shot an eight-under par 64 after a 60 on Thursday and they’re in at 20-under after two rounds at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples.
They’re a shot in front of two teams.
Jason Dufner and Brandt Snedeker tied the leaders for low round of the day with a 64 of their own and they’re at 19-under with first-round leaders Matt Kuchar and Harris English who could do not better than five-under on day two.
Billy Horschel and Hunter Mahan will start the final round three behind at 17-under.
The last 18 holes will be a best-ball format and a one-shot lead is like a two-shot lead in individual play.
Berger and Hoffman surged over the final three holes with birdies on all of them.
