Today our ace instructor, PGA Tour veteran member Larry Rinker takes on a concept that’s been around for a long time and Larry calls it: The Myth of the Open Face Sand Wedge.
Perhaps you’ve seen some PGA Tour events where a player is hitting a sand shot or a short pitch around the green and the ball, embarrassingly, goes straight right — akin to a hosel-rocket.
That can come from trying to keep the face open even when the ball is gone.
In todays video, Larry shows that those wedges can be hit with an open club-face but the club, after the ball leaves the face of the wedge, goes to a “release” position with the club head in a “toe-up” position.
These shots are executed properly when the bounce of the club is used properly.
So listen up, click on the video and quit trying to hold that face open for way too long.
