It was the “other” dream pairing — Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy.
Two made it to the weekend, one didn’t.
Thomas shot 70 Friday to make the cut on the number — one-under — while Spieth rallied with a 68 to hit the same magic number — one-under.
Rory McIlroy wasn’t as fortunate. After a 71 on Thursday, his two-over par 74 on Friday sent him packing.
There were other big names closer to Webb Simpson’s incredible 15-under par 36-hole score.
Jason Day’s 67 got him to eight-under while Dustin Johnson found the going tougher. His 71 took him to seven-under, normally a good halfway score but a full eight shots behind Simpson.
Jon Rahm and Henrik Stenson were tied for 18th at six-under.
