The good news for Jaco Van Zyl is that he still has a piece of the lead at the Turkish Airlines Open.
The bad news is that there is a hungry crowd around him.
Van Zyl is no longer the solo leader at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal. He’s tied for the 54-hole lead with Frenchman Victory Dubuisson. Dubuisson birdied the final hole on Saturday, Van Zyl did not. Dubuisson’s 67 earned him his share while Van Zyl began to cool off and managed to shoot 70.
Things get very interesting a shot back at 15-under par. There lurks Rory McIlroy who started the day four shots back and after a third straight 67, is in position to challenge on Sunday.
There might have been a trio had the top but Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who played with McIlroy, bogeyed the final hole when his second shot hooked into some bushes short of the green. A penalty shot left him needing a 20-footer for par, which he almost made.
That bogey gave him 66 and he’s still in position to challenge on Sunday.
Chris Wood and Byeong Hun An will got into the final day just three back at 13-under par.
