So now comes Brian Borruso, aka Plaintiff, seeking damages from Joseph LaCava and his employer, Eldrick Tont Woods, Defendants.
Welcome to life in the limelight.
Welcome to the wonderful world of frivolous lawsuits.
Evidently Mr. Borruso lives in our neck of the woods down here in the Tampa Bay area. Borruso is a resident of Pasco County and Mr. Borruso alleges in his lawsuit that he was injured after being shoved during the 2018 Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort.
Evidently it’s taken two years for Mr. Borruso to feel the effects of the incident.
According to Borruso’s complaint filed this week in Pinellas County, said incident took place on the par-3 13th hole during Tiger’s third round. That would have been a Saturday. Apparently Tiger’s tee shot sailed over the green and landed near where Mr. Borruso and other spectators were gathered.
Borruso claims he then tried to take a selfie with Woods in the background. Borruso’s suit alleges that LaCava, shoved Borruso, and that the shove in question resulted in “causing him (Borruso) to stumble and fall into the crowd of spectators.”
Borruso’s injuries are not specified in the complaint, but it alleges that he was hospitalized, lost the ability to earn income and aggravated an existing health condition.
The losses are either permanent or continuing,” the suit says.
Apparently Mr. Borruso didn’t pay much attention to the disclaimer portion of his ticket to The Valspar that reads:
YOU ASSUME ALL RISK AND DANGER ARISING OUT OF YOUR ATTENDANCE INCLUDING LOSS OF YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY, INJURY, OR DEATH FROM A GOLF SHOT OR BY OTHER SPECTATORS OR PLAYERS, AND YOU HEREBY RELEASE TOUR, THE HOST ORGANIZATION, THE HOST SITE, TELEVISION BROADCASTERS, SPONSORS, VENDORS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE AFFILIATES, EMPLOYEES AND AGENTS, AND ALL VOLUNTEERS, PARTICIPATING PLAYERS AND CADDIES, FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITIES ARISING OUT OF SUCH LOSSES, INJURIES OR DEATH.
Mr. Borruso’s local personal injury barrister is one Josh Dreshsel, Esquire, of the Josh Firm (imagine that). Seems Barrister Dreshsel has put out a plea for witnesses. Imagine that. Barrister Dreshsel has also asked for the PGA Tour to provide video from the tournament, to which the tour’s barristers replied: “Not without a court order.”
Mr. Borruso is seeking $30,00o in damages.
Stay tuned on this one.
Editor’s side note: We looked for Mr. Borruso online and found a Brian Borruso on Facebook, who happens to live in Pasco County. That Brian Borruso has been out and about quite a bit, taking in spring training games last year, making trips abroad to London and Paris. But that Brian Borruso didn’t look the least bit injured and sure appeared to be making the rounds. Nah, couldn’t possibly be the guy suing Joe LaCava and Tiger Woods.

I mean if this was against Steve Williams ok, but accusing Joe of excessive force is almost as hard to believe as Fluff.
2 years. Asking everyone, potential defendants no less, to do your homework. This has clown show written all over it.
One possible happy ending would be if they go to court and this guy ends up having to pay court costs.

It should get thrown out like you said, a clown show…
