It’s nearly upon us.
Two days away — the day after Thanksgiving — and there’s one huge looming question:
Will you or won’t you fork out $19.99 to watch the deadly duel between Tiger Woods and the man who has basically been his whipping boy for what seems like forever. Yeah, we’re talking about The Teflon Pro himself — Phil Mickelson.
How about this for an opener:
Tiger: “Hey Phil, got a call from Billy Walters yesterday, of course it was a collect call seeing as he’s in prison — he wanted to know which way he should bet this match?
Phil: Dead silence.
Tiger: “Billy also wanted to know if you’ve picked up any good insider-info lately.”
And just like that, Tiger Woods could crawl deep inside the head of Phil Mickelson.
Yes, it’s upon us, almost. About 48 hours to go.
To watch or not to watch? That is the question.
Friends, Romans and countrymen, we’re not here to praise Woods and Mickelson but to simply ask if this $9 million match is worth it? Can it possibly match the hype?
Tiger’s been practicing for this, we know that. Mickelson? You never know what he’s up to but you can bet he dropped a ton of cash and bet the over on the Monday Night football game between Kansas City and Los Angeles. Winner, winner chicken dinner for Philly Mick and everyone else, so much so that The Books took a bath on that one.
Which brings us back to Vegas and this Too Many Years Too Late showdown between Phil and Tiger.
Tough call. We’ve got East Carolina vs. Cincinnati to watch, not to mention USF vs. UCF in the War On I-4 showdown. We can watch those for free.
So do we give in to temptation and click “order now” on the Pay Per View list.
Tiger and Lefty had a little face-to-face Tuesday to promote this circus and they didn’t waste any time.
There will be “side bets” in this match with the players putting up their own money, winnings go to charity.
Mickelson immediately bet $100,000 that he’d birdie the opening hole of the match. “Double it” was Woods’ response. So right off the bat, if Lefty doesn’t birdie No. 1, it’s 200-large to Tiger’s charity.
The course will be set up easy, the winner may have to shoot eight or nine under par.
So it has begun.
Tough call.
Tiger or Phil.
Tough call.
Gotta go with Tiger.
As far as the Pay Per View, we’ll file that under:
Yet To Be Determined.
