Tiger Woods has a well-earned, well-documented ability to keep secrets.
It’s a proven, documented fact.
So naturally when the PGA Tour comes to town for a stop not far from his back yard, it’s only natural to wonder how one of the more famous residents of Jupiter Island is doing as far as his health is concerned.
It is the profile of Tiger Woods that has made him hundreds of millions of dollars. Now, he simply wants to hide from everyone. Tiger, meet the Ghost of Howard Hughes. Ghost of Howard, say hello to Eldrick Woods, call him Tiger.
Late last week there was online speculation that Tiger isn’t doing too well as far as his back is concerned.
Tiger’s pet pit-bull, aka Mark Steinberg, tried to squash those rumors. It’s what he’s supposed to do. “Stiney” gets paid to do what Eldrick tells him to do.
Some of Tiger’s “buds” have chimed in.
Ryder Cup captain Davis Love tells us Tiger is “making progress.”
Tiger’s lap-dog, aka Notah Begay, does the obligatory “getting better” quote and adds that Eldrick is “starting to move like a human again.”
What Notah didn’t clarify is what sort of human? An old decrepit human or an athletic human on the mend?
The last time we heard from Woods himself was at the Hero Challenge where he painted a grim picture by saying that there was “no timetable” for his return.
That was three months ago.
If Tiger is indeed better now than he was then, then he’d certainly be capable of having a little presser, say, over at his restaurant, The Woods Jupiter, and invite his pal Tim Rosaforte from the Golf Channel and a few of the guys who are covering the Honda Classic. The Palm Beach Post doesn’t have a golf writer anymore, very few daily newspapers do. Sad but true, but Tiger could have it over at his joint, private event, before opening hours. Go ahead and squash all those horrible rumors, as Stiney called them. Set things straight, Tiger still has plenty of fans and they’d probably love to hear from him.
The problem is that’s waaaaay too easy, waaaaay too logical.
And what a great way to plug his eatery. Oh by the way folks, feel free to also write how great my place is.
Alas, none of that will happen.
What Woods did do what take to the Twitter-sphere and has posted a video of himself making a golf swing with the comment:
“Progressing nicely.”
The only problem is that that video could have been taken last year or two years ago.
So we really don’t know.
Only Tiger does and if you believe him, yeah, “progressing nicely.”
