He’s been practicing five hours a day at The Medalist.
He’s playing and practicing and the Tiger’s Return Meter is rising rapidly, very rapidly. On Monday, he showed up at Bluejack National in Texas and played five holes in front of the public.
This week Tiger Woods submitted his registration to the USGA for the upcoming U.S. Open at Oakmont, June 16-19. But that won’t mark the start of his comeback.
Tim Rosaforte of The Golf Channel has already put it out there that Woods will be in the field at the Wells Fargo at Quail Hollow when the tour moves to Charlotte on May 5. If that’s the case, the following week is The Players and if it’s not Charlotte, then it could be Sawgrass. If not Sawgrass, then The Memorial, Tiger’s home away from home where he has won Jack Nicklaus’ event five times.
Is The Memorial a good enough tuneup for the U.S. Open? Probably not but three events would be.
Woods is exempt from U.S. Open qualifying so all he has to do is tell the USGA he’s playing.
It’s a testy situation for Woods because hitting balls and playing at The Medalist is not tournament golf.
Woods supporters like Notah Begay and John Cook have expressed their feelings that it is better to come back later than sooner.
For Woods, this is not only his most important comeback. It may well be his last.
