On a course he used to dominate, Tiger Woods fought hard Friday to barely make the 36-hole cut at the Memorial Tournament.
Woods, who opened with a sloppy 73 on Thursday, bogeyed two of his final three holes but went into full-grind mode at his 36th hole to make the cut on the number. Woods, who once again shot 33 on the front, struggled on the back. Bogeys at the 16th and 17th left him with a must-par situation at Muirfield Village’s 18th hole.
Woods missed the fairway left in the primary rough and had to hit his second short of the green, a wedge third left him with a nervous five-footer to play the weekend. The five-time Memorial winner drained the putt for a 70 and a one-under 143 total, giving him a spot in the field for the weekend. Once again, it was his tee shots that proved most erratic.
Given that, Woods isn’t used to getting up early on Saturdays, although it is becoming a trend.
This will be his last time on the course before the U.S. Open that begins June 18th at Chambers Bay.
