When Nike chose to feature Colin Kaepernick in a new advertisement, it basically rattled a lot of cages.
Opinions are heavy on both sides — it’s great or it is a total joke.
Tiger Woods is a true company man and the rest of us might do the same thing if we were in his shoes — and they’re Nike shoes, of course. Woods took the company line and given that Nike has stuffed HUNDREDS of millions of dollars into Eldrick’s pockets, he basically has to.
“I think Nike is trying to get out ahead of it and trying to do something special and I think they’ve done that,” he said. “It’s a beautiful spot and pretty powerful people in the spot.”
Nike’s commercial has Kaepernick with his message: “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.”
To which we respond that Kaepernick claim he is “sacrificing everything” is pure Bullshit.
Kaepernick’s been and has remained on the Nike payroll even though he’s not going to land a job as a backup quarterback in the NFL. He’s not good enough. Tim Tebow wasn’t good enough to stay in the NFL and he simply moved on. Kaepernick’s also on a huge billboard in New York, there for everyone to see just like a giant wart.
If Nike wanted to get the message of what it’s like to “sacrifice everything” then the late Pat Tillman would be in the ad. Tillman walked away from a multi-million dollar contract, joined the Army, qualified to become a Ranger, and lost his life in Afghanistan.
Kaepernick has sacrificed nothing. Tillman sacrificed everything, including his life.
And for that, we put Nike into the doghouse where the dogs can chew on the Nike shoes.
