For the first time in his storied career, Tiger Woods has missed all four major championships in a single season.
That went down Tuesday when he officially pulled out of the PGA Championship.
The good news is that it opened a spot for a very worthy competitor — Harold Varner III from East Carolina. Varner is the first African-American golfer on the PGA Tour to earn more than $1 million in a season since Woods.
Woods agent, Mark “I have no comment” Steinberg, affectionately known at “Stiney” to his No. 1 client, blathered something for the PGA of America and then added that Woods was officially done for the ’15- ’16 season and that he will continue to rehab and re-evaluate where he stands and how he feels sometime this fall.
Quite possibly, Woods could still make an appearance somewhere with the carry-over season, perhaps at his pal Davis Love’s hangout — Sea Island the week of Nov. 17. If not there, then his own Hero event in early December might be the perfect spot.
Until then, Woods will just keep doing what he’s doing, whatever that is.
Hopefully he’s not losing any money to the hacks at The Medalist in their Saturday game.
