There were some suggestions earlier this week that a Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson pairing might be very intriguing for the American Ryder Cup team.
All you have to do is think back to 2004 at Oakland Hills and that would evoke an Oh Hell To The No when it comes to pairing those guys.
Hal Sutton made that mistake at Oakland Hills and it bit him on the posterior, big-time.
Woods, then ranked No. 1 in the world and Mickelson, No. 2, lost 2-and-1 to Paddy Harrington and Colin Montgomerie in the foursomes (alternate shot) format.
Eventually, the U.S. was humiliated on home soil — 18 1/2 to 9 1/2.
Sutton took the fall and went down in history as one of the worst Ryder Cup captains.
Which brings us to 2018.
No, there will be no Tiger and Phil pairing.
You can bet on that.
