A professional golfer’s most scrutinized piece of equipment is his golf ball.
For years when Tiger Woods played those Nike golf balls, the dirty little secret was revealed that they were made by Bridgestone for Nike. Thus when Nike ditched the golf equipment business, it was a smooth transition for Woods to go right to Bridgestone.
At this weekend’s PNC Championship, Tiger will put the new Bridgestone Tour B proto into play for the first time in any sort of competition. His old ball was the Bridgestone Tour XS.
Note that Woods is also a TaylorMade guy on the club side. TaylorMade, which seems to come out with a new driver every nine months, much to the detriment of retailers, has gotten USGA approval for its new Stealth and Stealth-plus drivers. There’s a chance Tiger might try one of them this weekend although at Albany, he used his SIM to practice during his Hero World Challenge event.
Not sure what Charlie will be using but we wonder if Charlie will show up wearing PUMA golf shoes like he did at one of his junior events?
Rory McIlroy Puts $25 Million Into Troon Golf:
What do big-time PGA Tour stars invest their money in? Well, Rory McIlroy just dropped a cool $25 million into course management company Troon Golf.
He invested into a project called “Symphony Ventures.” According to reports, he’s partnered with TPG Capital to invest in Troon.
From Scottsdale, Arizona, Troon is the globe’s largest golf service company. Earlier this year, Rory also extended support to Dallas-based ‘Puttery’, which is Drive Shack Inc.’s new golf venture. The investment was over $10 million for an exchange of 10% ownership in the equity of each new site until 2023
No word if Rory will get a seat on the Troon board of directors.
