Most days you wouldn’t imagine finding Eldrick Woods in White Sulphur Springs, yes, that is in West Virginia. But he will be there when the Greenbrier Classic begins on Thursday. Let the sideshow continue.
Woods has been reduced from superstar to curiosity attraction these days. He still manages to land in the headlines, although this week it was the wonderful National Enquirer that was all over him, reporting rumors that Woods was or perhaps is involved with fellow tour player Jason Dufner’s ex-wife — Amanda.
The dumpage of Woods by world-class skier Lindsay Vonn starts to make sense if you believe what the Enquirer is peddling. With Woods’ history, it doesn’t sound too far-fetched.
Now back to the golf.
Woods is still trying to convince the world that he could turn this thing around any day. In the meantime, he missed the cut at the U.S. Open, never had a chance there.
This week The Old White course at the Greenbrier, which now has a TPC designation, presents a less-than-formidable challenge. Basically, Stuart Appleby shot 59 on this layout to win the tournament back in 2010. So with that in the books, it’s surely not asking too much for Eldrick to simply make a cut this week.
Consider that Angel Cabrera showed up at the Greenbrier for the first time last year and won the tournament, shooting 16-under par. So again, it’s not asking too much from Eldrick to simply make a cut.
So it might not be a total stretch to think that Greenbrier owner Jim Justice is secretly thinking to himself:
“Come on Tiger…..man up!”
