There won’t be Tiger-Mania Part II at East Lake next week.
No overwhelming crowds worked into a frenzy. Their man won’t be there.
Tiger Woods will not have a chance to defend his Tour Championship title at East Lake after rounds of 71-71-67-72 — a measly seven-under at birdie-friendly Medinah, saw him lose his chance at the top 30 at the BMW.
His 72 on Sunday was especially hum-drum and perhaps Woods saw the writing on the wall even after his 67 on Saturday.
When asked what it would take to do the trick, Woods gave them this:
“If I shoot 60 it should be all right.”
Tiger only came up 12 shots short and was disappointed.
“My short game was most disappointing. I wasn’t very good,” he said. “The most exciting part was the fact I felt better than I did last week and was able to the hit driver and I drove the eyes out of it for me. I was hitting it long and straight and that was fun.
“It’s disappointing,” Woods said after his finished well outside the top 30. “I wish I could have (made it). Last year culminated in a pretty special moment for me and it would have been nice to go there, but I’ll be watching the guys on TV.”
Woods will now have an extended vacation. He won’t be in action until he plays in something called the Zozo Classic in Japan the week of October 24. He’ll be at the Narashino Country Club, just outside Tokyo. Prior to that event, Woods is slated to play in some high-appearance fee skins game with Rory McIlroy and Jason Day.
Then there’s the Presidents Cup in December were Tiger will have to decide to either captain the team or captain the team and make himself a pick as a player.
In the meantime, looks like he’ll be driving the kids to school early and often the next few months.

Oh well the good news is tiger finished the season looking healthy. Maybe as a younger man or in a different era tiger could take a month off from competition and show up with a realistic chance to win. But that seems unlikely. The run up to the tour championship last year and the masters this year both included plenty of golf for tiger leading to those two wins.
When healthy Tigers body more than anyone seemingly needs to play plenty to be able to win.
But I guess so long as he wins 1 major a year for the next 4…

I believe he’s won his last major.
