Not sure why everyone thinks this is some sort of scoop.
We suggested that with the wind and damp, chilly air last Saturday at the Presidents Cup matches, that Tiger Woods simply listened to his body and sat out both sessions, choosing to be a coach for his guys.
Tiger has said time and again that his soon-to-be 44-year-old body doesn’t like cold temps, doesn’t like rain and wind thrown in. Multiple surgeries on your knees and back will do that.
So it came as no surprise that he said out the third and fourth sessions last Saturday against the International team. Besides, Tiger said emphatically: “I trust my team.”
As it turned out, they closed the point gap to a mere two points and that was enough to set up the Sunday victory for Team Tiger.
Freddie Couples tried to go all bananas about Tiger sitting out but Couples should know a thing or two about fragile backs, after all, Freddie is the undisputed King Of Bad Backs.
Freddie gave this account on PGA Tour radio on Sirius. Per Freddie, it went like this:
‘Guys, my body is not going to let me go. I’m not going to play this afternoon,'” Couples said of Tiger’s declaration. “Of course, Stricker hopped on and said, ‘Tiger please, can you go in right now and get loose and warm.’ He said, ‘Strick, I can’t do it.’ Zach (Johnson) said, “Tiger, are you sure, you sure?’ (Woods) said, ‘I believe in the team,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, so do I, but I believe that you need to be playing.”’
Just goes to show that they didn’t understand that Tiger simply wanted to be well rested and ready to go out in the first match on Sunday and set the pace for his team.
Turns out Tiger was a great captain and that Couples, Stricker and Johnson simply didn’t know what was best for Tiger.
End of story.

Absolutely Tom.
Tigers move was genius.
Rest had nothing to do with it.
Tiger had a great year…when it wasn’t cold. It was really cold Saturday and it stayed cold all day. Tiger wisely sat himself all day.
Everyone should see what a smart, unselfish, self aware, move that was. Legendary really.

Anyone who has watched Tiger’s comeback knew he’d sit on Saturday.
