Tiger Woods was blasting some long drives Thursday in his opening round at Albany and shaping some pretty nice iron shots.
He’s supposed to be working with his new sponsor — TaylorMade — to develop his own set of irons.
That’s obviously been on hold for 10 months, so let’s take a quick peek at what was in his Monster Energy bag as he makes his return to competitive golf.
Driver: Woods is using the 2016 version of the TaylorMade M2.
Three-wood: It’s a 2017 M2.
Five-wood: An old M1.
Here’s where it could have some variation.
Woods said his second shot from 260 at the fourth, and it was a beauty, was a 2-iron. He has used a TaylorMade Tour Preferred UDI driving iron, he’s also flirted with a three-iron but may have a two-iron in the bag instead.
Irons: The irons are obviously blanks, stamped with “TGR” on them. There’s always debate as to them being Mizuno blanks, but most feel they are old Nike VR Pro Blade blanks. May be difficult for TaylorMade to get those out of the bag anytime soon.
Wedges: Nike VR Pro Forged, 56 and 60-degrees.
Putter: Here’s where Nike may have actually held him back. His putting has improved big-time since he went back to the old familiar Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS.
Ball: Per his new sponsor — Bridgestone — it’s the Bridgestone Tour B XS.
