Typically no one remembers who finished second in any given PGA Tour event, especially these not-so-exciting fall cross-over tournaments.
Joaquin Nieman was in the winner’s spotlight last week at The Greenbrier — winning The Military Tribute by a whopping six shots. The man who finished a half-dozen behind the rising young star was Tom Hoge.
Hoge shot rounds of 68-65-67-65 and finished solo second, which is pretty good work when you can do that on the PGA Tour.
Hoge got a sniff of the action and apparently everything is still clicking with his game. Hoge went low with an eight-under par 64 and was probably back in his hotel room when the weather got ugly Thursday afternoon at the Country Club of Jackson.
Play had to be halted and was later suspended for the day with half the field on the course.
Hoge was off to a good start and can sleep in Friday morning while the Thursday afternoon wave of the Sanderson Farms championship gets out at the crack of dawn to finish round one.
Hoge was a shot better than Robert Streb, Cam Percy and Seamus Power.
