No surprise if you haven’t heard of Matt Wallace, the 54-hole leader at the Italian Open.
He hasn’t exactly torn it up lately. He’s missed the cut in the four previous Rolex Series events in the Race To Dubai.
But that hasn’t stopped him from getting to a whopping 17-under after three rounds at the Golf Club Milano.
“I’d say we’re probably only halfway there, halfway done, because Sunday is a different day,” Wallace said after a Saturday 67.
“I’m going to go out, fight as hard as I can and hopefully be standing here with the trophy tomorrow.
“Like I said yesterday and the day before, I’m playing some really nice stuff.”
He’s got a lot of quality players chasing him. Race To Dubai leader Tommy Fleetwood made the biggest move of the day with an eight-under par 63 that pulled him within four of Wallace.
Defending champion Francesco Molinari’s 66 put him just two back along with last week’s winner — Tyrrell Hatton (65).
