It was a waste of a spot in the field.
Tony Romo went home Friday after shooting 77 then an embarrassing 82 in the second round to finish 15-over par for his two days and dead-last in the field, playing on a sponsor’s exemption at the Corales Puntacana Championship.
Romo, a retired NFL millionaire, took up a spot that could have gone to a young professional trying to find his way to the PGA Tour. Instead, Romo’s appearance in the event turned out to be much ado about nothing.
Brice Garnett is the 54-hole leader at 16-under par. He’s been the leader since Thursday’s first round when he opened with 63.
The PGA Tour rookie will take a two-shot lead over Corey Conners into Sunday’s final round.
