There’s no more PGA Tour Q-School except for the cleverly disguised Web.com Tour Finals.
But there’s still one Q-School and that just happens to be tryouts for the Web.com Tour.
Tony Romo was a good NFL quarterback and he’s a really, really good broadcast analyst for CBS with partner Jim Nance. Romo has a nice fat contract for that job so it’s head-scratching as to why he want to try and qualify for the Web.com Tour.
Whatever his reasons, Romo made it through a pre-qualifier for the Web.com, although barely. The only reason he’s in the Q-School is that Japanese player Tomo Watanabe was disqualified int he pre-qualifier in Lantana, Tx., for signing an incorrect scorecard and that let Romo advance. Romo has posted an unimpressive two-over par 218 (72-72-74).
When the former Dallas Cowboys signal caller tees it up Sept. 25-28 in Garland, Tx., next week, he’s going to find the sledding a lot tougher. There are 78 players at this site and there are other sites as well, there won’t be a heckuva lot moving on so unless Romo finishes in the Top 10 in Garland, and that’s unlikely, he can head back to the booth with Nance.
