When Tony Romo tees it up in a PGA Tour event, it’s pretty easy to find his score.
You start at the bottom.
Thursday was no exception down there in Puntacana Resort. The old Cowboy quarterback was given a pass into this “opposite field” event. While the big boys are in Austin at the match play, all the others are here and someone thought it was a good idea to give Romo an exemption. Shame on whoever that was.
Once again old Tony got skunked in the birdie department. He shot a dazzling 42 on the front but really got it going and shot just one-over coming home.
Good news is that Tony broke 80.
More good news is that the “who are they” guys — Tom Lovelady, George Riley and Troy Matteson came through for Tony. Lovelady shot 81, Riley 85 and Matteson 84 although he was so pissed off he withdrew.
Romo was tied for 128th and pretty much guaranteed a trip back home before the weekend.
The actual leaders of the tournament are Matt Jones, Joel Dahmen and Paul Dunne. They all shot six-under par 66s and beat Romo by 13 shots.
This Tony Romo on the PGA Tour stuff has got to stop. It’s downright embarrassing for the tour and Romo and the sponsors who are stupid enough to let him in.
Tony needs to prove he can actually win a name amateur event, which he cannot.
It’s okay to throw him in an occasional Web.com event. Yeah, that’s fine.
But the PGA Tour?
No, please, no more, absolutely not.
