Day Two of the BMW Championship was very much like Day One with Marc Leishman setting a torrid pace at Conway Farms. Here’s how things look after 36-holes:
Marc Leishman made more birdies than anyone two weeks ago in Boston and he once again is the top producer at the BMW. It’s hard to follow-up a 62 with a great score but he did with a 64 on Friday. He’s a sizzling 16-under and after two rounds, this is his event to win or lose.
Jason Day made it a super day thanks to a hole-in-one at the difficult 17th. He shot 65 and that got him within three shots of his fellow Aussie, Leishman.
Rickie Fowler is squarely in the hunt after his 64 got him to 13-under with Day.
The feature group of Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas was simply miserable to watch on Friday. None of them managed to break 70. D.J. shot 72 and is one-over. Jordy’s 70 left him nine shots behind the leader and J.T.’s 70 left him way back five-under par.
Hideki Matsuyama finally had a decent round. He shot 68 but is only two-under on a course that has yielded nothing but birdies to those playing well.
Phil Mickelson continues to play well. Lefty’s in a seven-under par.
Rory McIlroy’s season will most likely end after Sunday. At one-under, he’s tied for 50th.
Patrick Reed needs to get in gear if he wants to stay in the top 30. After a pair of 72s, he’s teetering on the brink.
