Time for a major eyeball roll.
You know the USGA simply can’t avoid controversy.
Ditto for the LPGA.
President Trump? His new middle name is controversy.
Add them all together and there’s no telling what might happen this week at the U.S. Women’s Open.
First thing you need to know is that the ladies will be playing at Trump Bedminster located in where else? Bedminster, N.J.
Second thing you need to know is that Mike Davis of the USGA has already been put on the hot spot. Rumors were swirling that the USGA was perhaps seeking to get this championship moved, mainly due to the Trump ownership situation. Then the second part of the rumor came that The Donald used the “S” word, as in “sue.” Not a girl named Sue, a legal action named “sue.”
So the USGA stayed with the spot and here we are as the Thursday start of the Women’s Open rapidly approaches.
First to stir the pot was LPGA player Brittany Lincicome. She tweeted that she preferred President Trump not show up at the event this week.
Instant controversy.
Quickly, Lincicome then announced that she will not be on Twitter for a while. Good decision.
Okay, let’s think about this for a moment. Logic would probably dictate that if President Trump got wind that someone WANTED him to stay away from one of his name properties, the first thing he would do is SCHEDULE A TRIP THERE!
There’s already word in the wind that he just might show. The FAA has issued air space restrictions for the area, much the same way it does when Trump visits Palm Beach (Mar-a-Lago).
Add in Trump’s history with the USGA and you’ve got a potful brewing in New Jersey.
All they need now is New Jersey Governor Chris Christie sun bathing in a lawn chair in one of the bunkers.
Several liberal groups have already indicated that they’ll be nearby picketing.
This oughta be good.
Good luck, ladies!
