So who’s the longest driver from the 2018 season and let’s talk both sides of the pond.
Rory McIlroy?
Sure, Rory led the PGA Tour in driving distance for the 2018 season, averaging 319.7 yards for the measured drives. Second was Trey Mullinax at 318.3, Tom Lovelady was third at 315.9 following by Tony Finau (315.1) and Luke List (314.6).
But the longest of all is Ross Fisher from the European Tour. The Englishman topped out at a whopping 326.5 to claim the title as longest driver on both sides of the pond last season. He was followed on that tour by Rory at 323.9, South African Hayden Porteous at 322.3, Ryan Fox from New Zealand at 321.2 and South African Dean Burmeister at 318.6.
The courses on the European Tour aren’t as heavily watered and manicured as the ones visited by the PGA Tour and that explains the difference for the most part. Still, Fisher topped Rory McIlroy by almost three yards.
For 2019 it’s going to be no contest, most likely.
There’s a new sheriff in town and his name is Cameron Champ.
No one’s gonna touch that kid.
