Sure, D.J. and J.T. and Jordy and Hideki are all on hand at the Tournament of Champions this week.
No way to forget those guys.
But when you take a look at the entire field set for this week in Kapalua, there are some guys you might have forgotten. We certainly did.
Jonas Blixt and Cam Smith? Oh yeah, right, they won the team event in New Orleans. Used to be the Zurich Classic, still is, but now you don’t have to do it on your own. They’re both in, thank-you.
Ryan Armour won just a couple of months ago at the Sanderson Farms. But how memorable are those fall cross-over events? Seriously?
Forgot that D.A. Points punched his ticket last year. Points hasn’t been in the winner’s circle since the 2013 Shell Houston Open but he ended that slump with a win at the Puerto Rico Open. Sadly, Hurricane Maria tore the island apart and there won’t be an official event down there this year, there will be some sort of unofficial fund raiser but no event, no title for Points to defend.
Another forgotten man is Billy Horschel. Horschel had a monster year in 2014 when he won the BMW and the Tour Championship on his way to taking the FedEx Cup. But he hadn’t broken an egg since. Not until he re-emerged at the Byron Nelson for the win.
In keeping with that “it’s easy to forget the cross-overs” Austin Cook is at Kapalua thanks to his win at Sea Island.
As for your most recent winner — no one forgets Rickie Fowler and after his performance last month at the Hero World Challenge, he’s probably a player to watch starting Thursday evening when the first round get going.
