The field for the Deutsche Bank, second stage of the Fed Ex Cup playoffs, was set for 100 players.
It’s now 99 and counting and the question going to Boston for Friday’s start and a Monday, Labor Day finish, is this — will Henrik Stenson tee it up?
The last time we saw Stenson was the second round of last week’s Barclays Championship and after his round on Friday, he withdrew. His surgically-repaired right knee was acting up, some swelling and a lot of concern.
He went home for an MRI and was waiting results of that as the work begins for this week’s Stage Two of the road to the FedEx Cup.
Stenson is scheduled to play on Friday with Bubba Watson and Jason Dufner at 9:15 a.m. at the TPC Boston.
It would not be surprising if he passed to rest the knee an extra week. After all, the Olympic Silver Medalist is one of the stalwarts of the European Ryder Cup team. If his knee problems were to get worse, that would not be a good thing for Euro Captain Darren Clarke.
Last week’s winner, Patrick Reed, will play in the day’s featured group with Dustin Johnson and Jason Day.
