Zac Blair is a second-year pro on the PGA Tour who has never helda 54-hole lead.
That changed Saturday at Waialae.
Blair goes into the final 18 tied with veteran Brandt Snedeker and he probably should have had the lead by himself.
Blair hit a great shot from a testy lie at the par five 18th to reach the green in two. His first putt from 50-feet stopped within two feet. He missed that putt to get to 17-under but still finds himself tied with the overnight leader going into Sunday.
Blair was unshaken by the miss. “I’ve had a good plan so far. I just want to keep hitting fairways and greens and see what happens,” he said after posting 16-under par.
Snedeker will be kicking himself as well. He was pin-high just off the green in two but his pitch left him 12 feet from the cup and he missed his bid to get to 17-under.
Blair and Snedeker will be joined in the final group by Kevin Kisner who did birdie 18 to get to 15-under.
Si Wood Kim of South Korea’s 65 put him in at 14-under. Fabian Gomez, who played well last week at the Tournament of Champions, is in contention again at 12-under.
Matt Kuchar proved that someone might come from behind on Sunday. He shot the second 62 of the tournament and is in at 11-under.
