Phil Mickelson had a recurring problem last week at East Lake.
He couldn’t find many fairways. He shot one-over par and tied for 22nd out of 29 players, just what you need to get ready for this week’s Ryder Cup.
On his way out, Phil found something to whine about.
He was miffed at how the PGA Tour had set up the golf course, scolding the powers-to-be for having that dreadful rough, citing that there wouldn’t be such a nuisance this week at Hazeltine.
Phil was also whining about the Sunday night announcement of Ryan Moore as the 12th and final member of the team.
“It might have been a mistake to wait this long for the final pick,” said Mickelson, a member of the infamous “Task Force” that was tasked with trying to come up with some clever way to return The Cup to the United States. “It’s kind of hard to get all the game plans and so forth in sync when the team is not quite finished.”
Really?
Game plan?
How about this for a game plan: HIT SOME FAIRWAY PHYLLIS!!!!
And while you’re at it, tell those guys to make some putts this week when they matter.
That’s how the U.S. can win the Ryder Cup.
And Phil needs to understand that a golf course in Minnesota is very, very different from a golf course in Atlanta, Ga.
And it’s not the PGA Tour’s job to go easy on those spoiled babies.

Typical Philly, always trying to control the situation. Meanwhile, he should be very careful in criticizing the PGA Tour—after all Finchem the meaningless commissioner with no guts has let Philly off the hook on the insider trading–good thing it wasn’t ryan Moore or Kevin Chappell–they would be banished for 6-12 months and a hefty fine but because Phil runs the Tour no nothing to him.
the Tour takes a lot of credit for a lot of things–but the lack of intestinal fortitude is something they have plenty of!!!

Preachin’ to the choir Bob, preachin’ to the choir…..if the U.S. doesn’t win the Ryder Cup, I think we should blame Love as coach and Mickelson as the most experienced player.

Indeed Tom! Bob is absolutely right, Phil should no be biting the hands that feeds his ego and let him get away with what I consider less than gentlemanly behavior, well said.
As to the Ryder Cup, I will blame it on those two also if they fail. Phil has been going around saying this is his team and Davis Love has acted more like a buck private than a captain.
One advantage the European team has is the concept of “TEAM”. All you have to do is watch the European Tour and how the handle each other, how they share everything, how they celebrate each other’s victories.
To me it is not a surprise they function so well. Our guys think they are movie stars and only think about team concept in the Ryder Cup and President’s Cup years, otherwise they hate each other.
Note to Zack Johnson, since you think the Olympics and representing your country is a waste of time, perhaps you should give your spot on the team to someone that really cares. Zack Johnson will never be in my favorite list, ever!

I hear they’re bringing in a bus to throw Love under if the Euros win.

Roger that!

He’s been a whiner for quite sometime, I don’t know if him an Watson have a running bet going on who’s going to whine the most and under perform at the same time, lol….

That’s a neck-and-neck race.

Most people in the world of golf seem to be afraid of Philly. I may have told you on my radio blog before this year started I predicted that neither Phil nor tiger would ever win again. I have taken some heat and some agree, but most people think Phil will win simply because he has enormous talent and he can’t possibly not win. Well, not totally but somewhat patting myself on the back, he indeed is winless and this is in a year that he changed coaching, clubs and supposedly is in the best shape of his career–still came up short—hmmmmm am i on to something??? this is not because I have a touch of disdain for his attitude but simply 46 year olds do not win very often especially when they try tooooooooooooooo hard to win. Davis won last year because he allowed it to happen, he did not force it.
p.s.–why are they afraid of him?? they won’t get his next interview……………………….

Pretty interesting observations there Bob.

I have covered sports myself for many years and pushing, forcing and trying too hard very rarely works—especially in golf where you are competing against tens of opponents instead of in team sports where you have help and only one other team to beat at a time.
Philly changed following his first Masters win–when it hit him that majors are the only tournaments that matter. I hate it when he says stuff like “this course is a great tune up for me heading into…the masters…the U.S. Open, …the open…….the pga……. instead of appreciating the event he is playing that moment, he doesn’t. I will harp a bit, Tom but his recent dismissal by the pga tour to the point that the lame duck commish never ever address it with his gambling fiasco cemented my impression of the whole affair—I said it yesterday–good thing it wasn’t someone like Kevin Na or Ryan Moore—they would be gone….period

Bob, I guess there’s no truth to the rumor that Phil invited you to dinner at his house after the Ryder Cup…..
beege
no tom, we have had dinner many, many times………….o.k. never. however truth be told, I was a huge Philly fan until he started “big timing” the world and at times doing it in such a way to say who’s going to stop me. One other thing he did to tick me off was the year after he won the bell south in atlanta which was played the week before augusta to get primed for the masters, the tour switched the bell south from before the masters to after the masters—the defending champion in my opinion has a built-in responsibility to play the next year–you know especially the wednesday pro-am is always where the CEO of the sponsoring company plays with the defender. Philly decided the bell south did not fit in his plans any more–he does not play and voila the CEO is left looking like his event is not really that important—maybe a coincidence but they dropped their sponsorship shortly thereafter. its that selfish, I can do what I want attitude that Arnie would never have understood. His general pushy approach to virtually everything makes me think that he really does not “get it”.
Tom Edrington
Phil is no Arnie, of course then, no one else on this tour today could even shine Arnie’s shoes.

I dislike Phil. I don’t think he is genuine and I believe he is full of it. I’ll rather meet Carrot Top than Mickelson.
As much as I’m cheering for team USA, boy I would love for Mickelson to fail so miserably, lol…

I could make a long list of people I’d rather hang out with than Phil….for sure.
