What the heck is a Gribble?
It’s Cody Gribble, former Texas Longhorn star, a lefty golfer who is your newest PGA Tour winner.
It’s Cody Gribble, who barely made it to the PGA Tour this season. He was too far down on the Web.com regular season money list and with 25 spots available in the finals, he finished 24th, next to last but good enough to snare his card.
It all paid off this week in Jackson. Gribble, who didn’t look like a winner when he opened with a one-over par 73 on Thursday at the Jackson Golf and Country Club. He caught fire over the final 54 holes with rounds of 63 on Friday, 67 on Saturday then a tasty 65 on Sunday that gave him a four-shot lead walking up the 72nd fairway, ready to collect the trophy as the Sanderson Farms champion.
Grilled chicken for everyone!
Gribble made the turn two-under then pulled away from contenders Greg Owen, Luke List and Chris Kirk with birdies at 11 and 13 then three straight starting at 15 to close the door. He finished 20-under par, four better than those three who tied for second at 16-under. For List, it was his best-ever finish on the PGA Tour.
“Unbelievable,” said Gribble after his stellar round. “No words right now,” he said. He was relieved, having survived what he termed: “A bad finish on the Web.com Tour.”
It’s all in the rear view mirror.
He went from an uncertain schedule to a position where he can play in as many events as he wants this season, his card secure.

great to see Cody come through and win the two year exemption. it goes to show us all how deeeeeeeeeep the fields are now–and that the web.com tour is indeed the way to go. more and more guys every year come out of the competitive minor league tour and excel on the big league tour.
i remember the 1970’s when we would see guys come out of the woodwork to win. in my memory, Tom that is the closest era i can compare this one to–your thoughts on that comparison.
p.s.-buys like Forrest Fezler, Kenny Knox and even Tom Purtzer came out of that era

Believe me, I knew a bunch of guys who were life-time journeymen, like my guy Rex Caldwell, who I once sponsored for a week in a Tampa mini-tour event back in the mid-70s……of course, Rex did not make a check that week…..he also made off with one of my classic old MacGregor 3-woods, one of my high-school set, loaned it but of course it was never returned…..another can’t miss guy was Bill Calfee, MacGregor was drooling over him, totally ready to sign him, alas, took him something like three or four tries to get his card, however, happy ending, Calfee would get a position with the PGA Tour and is finally retiring as President of Web.com Tour, he’s made a LOT more money there then he would have even if he played well on the tour, Calfee, aka “Carefree” did quite well for himself as a Tim Finchem underling.
