Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning, Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady — is The Medalist in Hobe Sound the site?
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was going through his plan to re-open the state of Florida on Wednesday and he just happened to mention that he’s enjoyed working with Phil Mickelson on the plans to stage the sequel to the Woods-Mickelson Las Vegas Show back in 2018.
As Florida comes back to life, this match appears to be getting more and more solid for Memorial Day weekend with Sunday, May 24, the day or perhaps even Monday, May 25, Memorial Day.
A Medalist member confirmed a week ago that the course has been approached by event organizers about hosting the event, probably on Memorial Day weekend. Turner Sports will air “The Match: Champions for Charity” on TNT. It will be a huge Covid-19 fundraiser.
While Palm Beach County closed its golf courses, The Medalist is just across the county border in Martin County. The club was co-founded back in 1991 by Greg Norman, who lives about 10 minutes from the front gates at The Medalist.
The Medalist also happens to be where Tiger Woods hangs out, plays and practices when he’s not competing on the PGA Tour. The Woods compound is on Jupiter Island, same neighborhood as Norman and same neighborhood where Mickelson recently bought a pricey lot in anticipation of eventually bolting California and it’s heavy taxes for the friendly, no-state-income-tax freedom of Florida.
So will that give Woods a distinct advantage?
It should.
The Medalist is a good track with some difficult holes, like most Florida courses, it’s relatively flat. Should make for easy logistics for the Turner Sports cameras to get around without much of a problem.
It will also be an easy commute for Brady, who is now a Tampa Bay Buccaneer after leaving the Patriots. He’s taken up residence at Derek Jeter’s 40,000 square-foot waterfront mansion on Davis Island, next door to downtown Tampa. Brady was recently granted membership into the exclusive Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, south of the Medalist in north Palm Beach County.
Official announcements should come from Turner Sports any day now.
Real golf on television?
Yeah baby!
