The PGA Tour doesn’t allow its players to do endorsement deals with gambling-related entities.
But there’s no ban against, other, let’s say interesting products.
One of them is CDB, which immediately evokes images of the wonderful cannabis plant.
CBD is extracted from that wonderful plant but don’t confuse it with THC, the psychoactive component of the cannabis, which can transport you to a place where you leave your worries behind.
On Wednesday, there was the good ole boy’s good ole golfer — Bubba Watson — hanging out on Wall Street and on the floor of the stock exchange.
Seems Bubba has a new sponsor/partner — cbdMD — a company that produces a variety of products that contain cannabidiol. Said cannabidiol has been credited with combating pain, anxiety and depression. If it helps someone to be less of a jerk — then it should help Bubba immensely.
Starting at the PGA Championship in two weeks, Bubba will sport the company’s logo on both sides of his hats and visors, the ones with PING on the front.
Among the goodies the company puts out are gummies, hemp-oil extract, topicals, bath bombs, pet items and oils.
“I was taking the product, I love the product and for me, you know, it’s all about safety,” Watson said in an interview with The Street. “So for me, on a performance level, I got to have safety, I’ve got to take drug tests, I’ve got to do all these things and to protect myself and be able to play competitive golf.”
Now that Bubba has turned 40 he says his new stuff helps him deal better with inflammation and allows him to sleep better. Bubba called the cbdMD products the safest on the market and said he’s “proud to partner with them to help millions feel better.”
The company is traded on the NYSE under the new ticker symbol — YCBD.
Company president Caryn Dunayer is tickled pink to have Bubba on the team:
“By joining forces with one of the biggest names in the sport, we’re excited to see how the golf community embraces the newfound popularity of CBD,” Dunayer said in a company statement. “We’re looking forward to the continued success of Bubba, while educating the public on the many benefits of hemp-derived CBD.”
Like THC, CBD is a chemical extracted from cannabis plants. It can be found in both hemp and marijuana plants — both are technically “cannabis” but hemp must have less than 0.3 percent THC present.
So don’t look for Bubba to flunk any drug tests. It’s all on the up-and-up.
