The PGA Tour will announce its post-season honors on Friday and Daniel Berger has to be the favorite for Rookie Of The Year.
Berger’s in the hunt for the award along with Justin Thomas, Tony Finau and Nick Taylor.
Thomas and Finau were the early favorites but that was before the playoffs and before Berger made an incredible run that few saw coming.
Consider that Berger had missed six straight cuts going into the first event of the FedEx playoffs — the Barclays. He missed the cut there, adding fuel to the duel between Thomas and Finau.
What happened over the next three events for Berger defies logic but shows how quickly things can turn for a player on the PGA Tour.
Berger finished 12th at the Deutsche Bank then runner-up to Jason Day at the BMW. That finished vaulted him into the top 30 in the points standings and punched his ticket to East Lake where he finished 12th. That run put Berger north of the $3 million mark in earnings ($3,028,901) and he finished 25th on the money list.
In that three week span he banked an astonishing $1,225,900.
Justin Thomas finished 37th on the money list ($2,278,564), Finau 40th ($2,095,186), Taylor 93rd ($1,072,360).
Berger’s fellow players will cast their votes by Thursday and after his season-ending run, you would think he’s the guy.
Stay tuned.
