This is the fourth in a series of lessons and tips from C.D. Gaughan. Today he addresses a common problem most golfers face — flexibility.
I see many players who suffer from a lack of flexibility in their swing. There are many reasons for this issue.
1. You could be overweight.
2. You could be getting along in years.
3. You could have a number of physical ailments. Back, knee, hip, shoulder, etc.
4. Or — it may be just a lack of flexibility.
If you find yourself in one of these categories try this simple drill on the practice range and then take it to the golf course.
1. Narrow your stance to help you turn naturally.
2. Take a square stance address. Then pull your right foot back or your left foot back depending upon what side of the ball you are swinging from . This is going to help your hip turn a lot more freely producing more flexibility.
3. Your swing should feel longer because of your increased flexibility.
4. Flare your back right foot whether it’s right or your left just a little bit.
5. If you were right handed flare your right foot to 1 o’clock
6. If you’re left-handed flare it to 11 o’clock.
7. This drill also has a very important benefit to amateur golfers. It helps you deliver the club to the ball from the inside on the downswing, which is the holy grail to all amateur golf.
Note:
Try not to take the backswing too flat.
Try this simple affective drill and I think you’ll be very pleased.
Stay tuned!
