Harold Varner III - A Bit Insensitive About Morgan Hoffman - Dog Leg News

About the author

Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

    It’s pretty harmless Tom.
Most fans and most players truly don’t care about these side stories.
    Harold is being truthful.
As you know Harold is awesome.
Funny he mentions his battle may come in the future considering he is one of the very few black players on tour. Maybe it is true he is unaware of things. Helps him stay focused and positive.
Like everyone, I really like Varner. He golfs well but looks and sounds different. He says interesting funny things.
And this to me is preaching to the choir. It’s game time. He’s there to win …no time for other players feel good stories at game time.
I love Hoffman’s story but I also Love the thirds mentality here.

Harold is one of the best-liked players out there; This time, though, I wish he had not said what he said…..karma bit him on the back nine Sunday when he couldn’t find a birdie anywhere……
